Wind Power Project

 

Honourable Prime Minister Pakistan, Raja Pervez Ashraf has decided to extend the existing upfront tariff of 14.66 cents for Wind Power Projects, which expired on December 31, 2012, by another year.

With SBIís continuous efforts and persistent advocacy of the matter on various forums, Prime Minister Pakistan, Raja Pervez Ashraf has decided to extend the existing upfront tariff of 14.66 cents for Wind Power Projects, which expired on December 31, 2012, by another year.

This single decision has saved an investment of more than 4 billion as much required power of more than 1800 mega watts.

The decision was made in a high level meeting of the Sindh Board of Investment. The meeting was attended by Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar, Minister for Defence Syed Naveed Qamar, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources, Minister of State for Finance/Chairman BOI Mr. Saleem Mandviwala, Provincial Minister for Finance Sindh Mr. Murad Ali Shah and relevant officials of the Federal and Sindh governments. The meeting discussed in detail the progress made so far in setting up thermal power plants with Thar Coal specification and utilization of wind corridor in Sindh for production of electricity.

The Honourable Prime Minister said the Energy Policy of the government aimed to attract potential investors to invest in Energy sector to reduce gap between supply & demand of electricity in the country.

Chairman Sindh Board of Investment Mohammad Zubair Motiwala applauded entire cabinet for vetting the same. He further requested Honourable Prime Minister to announce the upfront tariff for the Thar Coal projects. He assured that said decision would also raise the much awaited curtain from Thar Coal Field.
